Teeth Whitening Mindarie

Looking to brighten up your smile? Anchorage Dental practice in Mindarie offers two different whitening treatments. Both of these treatments use specialised teeth whitening systems by Pola, a trusted Australian manufacturer located in Melbourne.

Seems as though just about everyone is doing it these days! Getting that “Hollywood Smile” is a regular pastime and the number one requested cosmetic dentistry procedure. While many people buy the “drugstore brand” of whitener, our office whitening procedure produces better results, and in only a fraction of the time.

What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a dental cosmetic procedure that helps to whiten teeth and remove stains and discolouration. It’s a safe and proven way to brighten your smile and boost your confidence. Teeth whitening is one of the most popular dental procedures because it is a fast, easy and inexpensive solution for improving your smile and dramatically enhancing your appearance.

Is Whitening for Everyone?

When it comes to teeth whitening (bleaching), it’s always best to begin in our office. We can advise you on whether you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. Those people with yellowish teeth typically have better results than those with brownish or grayish hues. Also, whiteners have no effect on tooth-colored composite fillings or teeth that are bonded, so whitening will only make these teeth stand out from the ones that do whiten.

Teeth Whitening at Anchorage Dental

With a nearby location and constant refrigeration service, the active components in our whitening systems stay active and perform better to whiten your teeth to your desired shade. Our dentists will discuss this with you further.

Our Take-Home System

The first of our two whitening systems is one that offers you convenience and control, done in your own home. You’ll see us to have impressions made for custom mouth guards, which are then fabricated and arrive a week later.

You’ll apply the system at home, where you’re in control of how much you use, how long you use it for, and how often you want to re-apply it to reach your desired shade of whiteness. You’ll see a difference by day 3 or 4 of use, and it’s done for a total of 7-10 days for an hour each time.

Our In-Practice System

This 75-minute visit will give you instant results with no follow-up necessary. We apply the system during your appointment, giving your teeth exposure to the whitening agents in a short period of time.

Are In-Office Procedures Better than At-Home Procedures?

The whitening procedure that we do at Anchorage Dental Care generally takes about an hour and the results are immediate. After ensuring that the gums are protected, a bleaching agent is applied to the teeth and it does all the work!

Our office also dispenses take-home kits along with a custom-made mouthpiece. These 10% carbamide peroxide (the bleaching agent) gels are generally used for two weeks in order to obtain the desired results.

Over-the-counter bleaching kits also contain carbamide peroxide, but you won’t get the custom-fitted mouthpiece, and your saliva tends to weaken the effectiveness of the gel.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Some people experience tooth sensitivity after using bleaching agents. This is usually temporary and goes away after completion of the whitening process. Others notice irritation of their gums – especially when the bleaching tray is not custom made and the gums come in contact with the bleaching agent.

Side effects should always be brought to our attention so we can advise you on whether they are typical or not.

Can I Go Overboard on Bleaching?

Believe it or not, bleaching can become addictive for some people who never believe that their teeth are white enough! This is dangerous because too much exposure to carbamide peroxide may cause the tooth enamel to appear translucent and increase teeth and gum sensitivity and irritation.

And… you certainly don’t want your teeth to glow in the dark, do you? So be safe and know when to say when and that’s usually when the colour of your teeth match the whites of your eyes!
